Photographing People

“Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst.”
― Henri Cartier-Bresson

Take your portraits to the next level in a workshop designed for the photographer who wants to feel more confident in his or her ability to photograph people. Through a combination of slide presentations, portfolio sharing, location shooting and discussion, we explore the technical, conceptual, motivational and emotional aspects of portraiture. We begin by sharing individual motivations, goals and interests and follow to look closely at the work of renowned portrait photographers and investigate differences in style, method and intent. Working with DSLR cameras, ambient lighting, and Adobe Lightroom, we will explore the vast possibilities of portrait creation and demonstrate the importance of location, timing, and styling for creating a unique experience for your subjects and a refined final product. Portrait photography reflects the personality and essence of the subject therefore we will also focus on creating purposeful work by finding your own voice and making a strong connection with the subject. Join us for what will be a combination of lecture and hands-on shooting with a live model, and editing!
